Hi everyone,
I’m Jonathan, the creator of Color.io. I have an important update: Color.io will be winding down over the coming weeks and the online service will fully shut down on December 31, 2025. Until then, everything will continue to run as usual, and Pro users will receive access to a downloadable offline version they can keep using indefinitely.
I know this update may be disruptive for some of you, especially if Color.io has been part of your workflow. At the same time, I want to be transparent about why this is happening. Color.io isn’t shutting down because it's struggling. But after 10+ years of running everything alone, I’ve reached a point where I need to grow in ways that aren’t possible as a solo builder.
I have an opportunity to work alongside a company whose products have shaped and inspired me, to work on creative tooling at a scale I could never reach on my own. This is an opportunity to work with people I admire, on tools that will reach far beyond what I could build alone.
Color.io will continue running until December 31, 2025. After that date, the web application and all online services will go offline permanently.
Here’s what you should know:
Color.io will be discontinued on December 31, 2025. Please export any work you want to keep before the shutdown date. All active subscriptions will be cancelled. Pro users will receive a legacy desktop app.
Pro users receive a legacy desktop app for macOS, Windows, Linux and Web (privately self-hosted only!) that will run offline and can be used indefinitely. Download the app with installation instructions for your OS from the links below.
The legacy version:
Make sure to export all work from the web app before the shutdown date. You can export your custom presets and packs from the web app and easily re-import them into the desktop app (see FAQ with instructions below)
All monthly and yearly subscriptions will be cancelled and will not renew.
All Pro Licenses will continue to grant access to the offline version after the shutdown.
To everyone who used Color.io, supported it, challenged it, or sent a message saying it helped them: Thank you. Your interest is what allowed this project to exist and evolve for as long as it did, and it’s ultimately what led to this next step for me. I’m grateful for the years I got to spend building this, and I’m looking forward to carrying what I learned here into what comes next. ✨

Questions? Answers.
A legacy offline desktop version is intended as a stable, long-term way for Pro users to keep using Color.io after the web service ends, but it will not receive updates, new features, or fixes. It will remain available in its final state exactly as provided.
For that reason, it’s important to export any work you want to preserve from the web app before shutdown.
Pro users won't be simply left without a way to keep using Color.io.
Everyone who currently has a Pro license will receive access to a fully offline legacy desktop version of Color.io Pro. This version can be yours to keep and use indefinitely, without a subscription or login. While it won’t receive updates or new features, it preserves the core tool so you can continue working with it long-term.
Presets can be migrated - yes.
To export presets from the web version:
- Right-click (or long-tap on mobile) a single preset or a preset pack name
- Choose Export

To import them into the desktop version:
- Open the preset library
- Click Import from device
- Select the .json file you previously exported

Legacy projects cannot be migrated from the web app to the offline desktop version.
(I never implemented a full project export feature before the shutdown process began, so there is no way to transfer existing projects directly. If there are images, LUTs, or results you want to keep, please make sure to export those manually from the web app before it goes offline.)
Every part of the Color.io web service will go offline before the end of the year 2025 and will no longer be accessible. This includes accounts, projects, and any data stored in the app.
If you have a Pro license, you’ll still be able to use the offline desktop version, but the online platform itself will be permanently discontinued.
